You’d think that after living in Thailand for 6 months it’d be an easy transition moving back here. Wrong. 🤷🏾‍♀️

If you search Canada housing crisis on TikTok, you’ll see tons of Canadians talking about how impossible it’s become financially to survive in the country. 🇨🇦

It’s truly devastating to see a country that once gave my family and I so many opportunities turn into a place I don’t even recognize anymore. This is one of the reasons I left and I’m glad that I got out when I did. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Life update: I’m back in Thailand it’s almost hard to believe but I’m super happy to be back! 💁🏾‍♀️

A lot has changed in 6 months and there’s just so much to catch up on.

I’m the founder and community manager for Black in Phuket and it’s so surreal how fast things are starting to grow. ✊🏾

Have you ever had something just fall into your lap? You maybe thought of it once or twice but then it just came to life.. ✨

Yeah that’s how running a community for Black expats & travellers in Phuket, Thailand feels. It was just an idea that I talked to a few friends about then a few months later here we are! 🎉

Working remotely in Thailand is always a vibe, it’s going well and I’m beyond grateful that I get to work online and live in such a beautiful place. I’m getting back into the groove of things with lots of content and resources to come! 🙏🏾

I also have a few other places I’ll be travelling to before the end of this year so that’s also pretty exciting. 🗺️

Here Are 3 Things I Wish I Knew Before Getting A Remote Job 💻

Everyone’s experience is different but these are things I wish I knew before working remotely. 👩🏾‍💻

When it comes to socializing, I barely talk to my co-workers outside of work conversations. When I worked in person jobs I built much better relationships with the people I worked with. 🤝

Add on the fact that I’m usually the only Black woman at my job and yeah it can be tricky navigating work relationships. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Weight gain is real when you work from home. 🏃🏾‍♀️

I came back to Toronto at the end of winter so I was not going outside for exercise and the gym in my condo wasn’t built yet. 🛠️

Let’s just say I’ve become a lot more mindful of the fact that I need to exercise daily in order to stay in shape. 💪🏾

When you work from home time can pass you by and you don’t realize that you haven’t been outside in 2 days. ⛅️

There are days where I simply do not leave my apartment I wake up and walk to my desk then when I’m done I can just go lay on the couch or chill out on my balcony. 🙅🏾‍♀️

Pair that with cooking at home or ordering in and I can go a day or 2 without stepping foot outside of my building. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Now I’ve added in a 1 hour workout and 30 minute walk after I finish work to help me get out of my apartment everyday. 🏃🏾‍♀️

As a digital nomad it also helps a lot when you’re working from a new city because naturally you want to get out everyday to explore. 🚶🏾‍♀️

How Much I Spent After 1 Year Of Travel ✈️💰

I travelled for a year splitting my time between Mexico and Thailand. I got to learn so much about both countries while living a very comfortable life on a moderate budget. 💰

What I spent to live abroad for 1 year would have been the cost of rent for 1 year in Toronto. 🙃

I came back to Toronto for a work opportunity and now in a few weeks I get to take that job with me back on the road travelling and living abroad. 🌍

What’s the longest you’ve ever been away from your home country? 💭

Disclaimer: I was travelling with my fiancé throughout this journey so some of the costs were split between 2 people! 🙏🏾

Also, just to note my pre travel shopping was $5,000 not included in this video and that did include a new MacBook so I’m just sharing that as transparency. 👩🏾‍💻

I stuck it out as long as I could in Toronto but it’s just not for me and it’s time to go lol ✌🏾

After living in Thailand for 6 months I learned so much about what I want from life and what I want my dream life to look like. I’m pretty much there minus a couple dollars 🥲

Being a digital nomad means I get to live abroad in different countries travelling slowly around the world while working from my laptop! 👩🏾‍💻

The freedom that comes with having work that allows you to do it from anywhere in the world is truly a blessing and that’s why I share my journey, tips and tricks with all of you because I can’t keep this beautiful lifestyle to myself. 🙏🏾💻

It was hard but it was the best decision I could have made for myself. 🙏🏾
